Thomas Colegrove, CPA
Tom has over 10 years of experience in public accounting with a focus in serving tax-exempt organizations, employee benefit plans, and the real estate industry at large. He is responsible for managing the workflow of Forms 990 & 5500 within the tax department. His work also includes tax planning and preparation for individuals, trusts, estates, partnerships, S- Corporations, and C-Corporations spanning many different industries.
He assists tax-exempt clients in applying for tax-exempt status by filing Form 1023/1024 and has assisted clients who have had their tax-exempt status previously revoked. More recently, he found success in converting a private foundation to a more favorable public charity by terminating the organization’s private foundation status.
Tom offers tax planning and consulting for tax-exempt clients who are engaged in Unrelated Business activities and must file Form 990-T as well as applicable state filings. Recently, he has consulted for a large, local tax-exempt entity in making a buy/sell decision relating to an easement.
In the for-profit, real estate industry, Tom has worked with a major Baltimore-area real estate developer in merging year-end accounting data between multiple financial systems. He has prepared their adjusting journal entries and income tax forms as they have grown through the years.
Tom graduated from Towson University, College of Business & Economics with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 2009. He also graduated from Loyola University Maryland with a Master of Science degree in Computer Science in 2014.
In 2014, Tom was recognized by Business Volunteers Maryland for his completion of a year-long civic leadership program (GIVE) in which he was partnered with a local Baltimore City elementary school to raise funds and awareness for its after school program.
